"Compliance, Quality Assurance + International Student Recruitment Best Practice"

This workshop is ideal for: Senior Managers, Directors, International Admissions, Compliance and QA professionals.

All education providers enrolling holders of Australian Student Visas have significant compliance obligations.  This workshop builds upon the content provided in the Introduction to International Compliance workshop and provides participants with a more detailed examination of compliance requirements affecting education providers. 

The workshop will focus on the challenges faced by providers in relation to CRICOS registration, Streamlined Visa Processing, Tuition Protection Service and Australian Autonomous Sanctions legislation.  In addition, participants will have the opportunity to discuss International Admissions processes and consider how they might be enhanced from a Quality Assurance perspective.

Includes an examination of key legislative and compliance requirements including:

  • Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 and associated National Code
  • Simplified Student Visa Framework – initial impacts?
  • Tuition Protection Service (TPS)
  • Australian Autonomous Sanctions Act 2011
  • Defence Trade Control Act 2012
  • Quality Assurance in International Admissions

 

About the Presenters:  

Simon Davies Burrows- Manager, Internationalisation, ECU

  Simon photo Simon has worked in the education sector in Australia and overseas for 18 years.  For the past 12 years he has been employed in international education at Edith Cowan University in Perth [ECU]. 

Simon has overseen international admissions, compliance & quality assurance, student mobility, International relations and academic partnerships. In 2005 he established the WA Universities ESOS Reference Group and became the founding Chair.  This group continues to meet regularly to discuss issues affecting international education and has over 20 active members from industry regulators and the five WA Universities.

In 2011, in recognition of his contributions to international education, Simon was awarded the inaugural Australian Universities International Directors Forum ‘Tracey McCabe Fellowship’.In 2012, Simon received the Vice-Chancellor’s staff award for his sustained contributions to internationalisation at ECU.

Simon has led international education discussions and industry improvements through the delivery of conference papers and workshops on International compliance, quality assurance and best practice to colleagues across all sectors.  He is Vice President of the Council for International Students of Western Australia [CISWA] and has been a CISWA Executive since 2009.

 

Cian Manton- Director, Temporary Visas WA, Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP)

Cian Manton is the Director, Temporary Visas WA for DIBP, based in the Department’s Perth regional office. Her responsibilities include national programme delivery of the temporary graduate visa programme as well as local management of the student and 457 programmes.

Cian was previously the Director, Media for the Department for several years, responsible for media liaison, issues management and proactive promotion of the portfolio as well as performing the role of departmental spokesperson.

Cian has worked for the agency both in its Canberra headquarters and the WA regional office, in a range of communications and service delivery roles. She moved into visa programme delivery in 2014 and has managed a range of temporary visa programmes including student, working holiday maker, 485 and 457.  She also managed media and parliamentary services at Medicare Australia in 2007-08. 

 

Irine Mjombah-Team Leader, International Admissions, CI Compliance and Student Services, Curtin International, Curtin University

Irine Mjombah has worked in the higher education industry in Australia and overseas for over 14 years. Irine is the Team Leader – International Admissions at Curtin University. She has been involved in international admissions, marketing Australian Universities to students, counseling students on courses offered in Australia and giving pre-departure to get students ready for their studies in Australia.
