Evolving Structural-Strategic Family Therapy (ESSFT) for Adolescents: Level 2 Workshop Series
There has been significant research to show that family therapy is an effective treatment for working with children and adolescents. Many therapists don't provide family therapy because they feel undertrained or intimidated by working with families. One difficulty therapists find is that there are multiple theories of family therapy making it difficult to integrate the approaches. Evolving Structural-Strategic Family Therapy provides a four step treatment approach that is a clear roadmap for working with families. ESSFT utilizes theories and techniques from Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, Behavioral Family Therapy, Attachment Based Family Therapy, Neuroscience, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
The Level 2 ESSFT training consists of six day long, six hour trainings where the clinicians dig deeper into the stages, see video of client sessions, and role play the essential skills. Attendees will show clips of specific techniques, and see specific clips of sessions where goals for the session are met as evidenced by client's responses/reactions. Additionally, a session will be watched beginning to end, giving participants the ability to role play, ask questions, and develop their skills.
• Role play scenarios will vary depending on which stage and/or technique is being worked on
• Participants are encouraged to bring in video of sessions with their own clients to base role play off of, although video is not necessary if the person is not seeing clients or video recording is not possible in the participant's clinical setting
• Participants are encouraged to keep track of common stuck points in their work between trainings to use for role plays and consultation
• Participants are not required to attend the ESSFT Consultation Groups, but are welcome to while going through the Level 2 Training
