This is our Annual Underground Storage Tank Management and Compliance Assistance Seminar.  Last year we had over 220 in attendance, and this year we expect to have an even larger attendance due to the fact that EPA has officially published the new UST Rules.

Note:  The new EPA Rules have been published in the Federal Register and are now official and effective.  However, most states that have an EPA Approved UST Program will be given three years to implement the new rules.

Seminar Agenda:

0830 AM  -  Welcome and Announcements

0845 AM   -  Update from  GA EPD on UST Issues to Include Operator Training, Tank Registration, Record Keeping, Notification and Financial Responsibility  -   Proper registration of your tanks and proper notification to the state of your UST Operator Training is critical to the proper operation and maintenance of your UST Systems.  EPD will also have a Help Desk in the Exhibit Area to help UST Owners/Operators with their tank registrations.

0930 AM  -  Update on New UST Rules from EPA –   Region 4 EPA  -  New rules have been introduced by Federal EPA that cover many new items in regards to Underground Storage Tanks.  This is the biggest UST Rule change since the rules were first introduced in 1984.  This wil be a summary of the rule changes and then each of the following speakers will emphasize how the new rules will affect their area.

10:00 AM  -  Break  -  Visit Vendor Exhibits  - Visit the vendor exhibits to see the latest in new products and technologies for underground storage tanks.  Cash and other door prizes will be available to those who visit the exhibits.

The remainder of the seminar is devoted to helping UST Owners and Operators be in compliance with the UST requirements.

1030 AM  -   Product Compatibility and Fuel Problems to include Water in Tanks and Corrosion Problems in  Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Storage Systems

1105 AM  -  Dispensers and Spill and Overfill Prevention  - Dispensers must meet Georgia Weights and Measures Inspections and you must have one of the three allowed methods for overfill prevention.

1130 AM  -  Tank Leak Detection:  Automatic Tank Gauges and Interstitial Monitoring  -    These are the two most common methods used for tank leak detection.  How much product must you have in your tanks to use one of these methods?

1200 Noon  -  Lunch and Visit Vendor Exhibits

1:00 PM  -  Release Detection  -  Tanks  - Inv Control  -   Inventory Control used to be the most common method of tank leak detection, but now, most states do not even allow it as an available method.  What about Georgia?

1:20 PM  -  Release Detection – Tanks – Tank Tighness Testing.    There are several different occasions that require the testing of underground storage tanks.  When should tanks be tested even if it is not part of the tank release detection?

1:40 PM  -  Statistical Inventory Reconcilliation (SIR)  -    When can SIR be used and when is it more economical to use?

2:00 PM  - Release Detection  -  Piping  -   Methods for Pressure Pumping Systems differ greatly from Suction Pumping Systems.  Do you know the difference?

2:30 PM  -  Corrosion Protection  -   Testing is required every three years by a certified testing company.
