Valuation Methods for Startups

James Glanzer, Bruder Capital LLC
Paul Grossinger, Angel & Venture Capital Investor
Dan Kerrigan, MPI Business Valuation
Any entrepreneurial firm seeking funding or contemplating an exit will need to assess the market value of its business. Regrettably, this is not always a simple or straightforward process - there are many approaches to valuation. Differing methods can lead to substantially different values.

Valuation can be a point of contention and the focal point of protracted negotiations. It is in the interest of entrepreneurial firms to enter such negotiations from neither an offensive nor defensive position. The purpose of the meeting is to share three perspectives on this topic from those with influence and experience in the entrepreneurial field.

Jim Glanzer is Founder of Bruder Capital LLC, an investment management fund which he established in 2009. Currently, he also works as a consultant to PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where his primary role is valuing private company investments. Previously, Jim helped to manage institutional high yield sales and trading operations at KeyBanc Capital Markets, Guggenheim, Paribas, RBC Capital Markets, and Oppenheimer.

Paul Grossinger is an entrepreneur, seed-stage angel investor, and early stage venture capitalist. Currently he is an investor in 44 startup companies and five funds, including well-known funds CoVenture and Brooklyn Bridge Ventures. In addition, he belongs to Jumpstart NJ Angels, Delaware Crossing Angels, and Golden Seeds; and is a mentor for Founder Institute, Tech Launch, and First Growth Venture Network.

Dan Kerrigan is President and Board Member of MPI Business Valuation, which provides valuation and advisory services to a wide range of end-users including entrepreneurial companies. Dan is responsible for leading and managing all areas of MPI's valuation and advisory practice, in particular involving Fair Value assessments for both private and public firms. His core competencies include corporate and shareholder planning.
