The launch terrain for startup companies likely will remain difficult in 2013, requiring entrepreneurial firms to examine all forms of assistance available. Accelerators are akin to boot camps for entrepreneurs, filled with classes covering organizational, operational, and strategic issues firms will face once they are launched. Many invest $40,000 for an 8% stake in participating companies, which may be augmented upon graduation. The program will be devoted to describing educational and mentoring aspects of accelerator-driven business development, differences between various types of accelerators, comparison to incubators, and financial & performance parameters of participation.
Murat Aktihanoglu is the Founder and Managing Director of Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator, a seed-stage fund and technology business accelerator in New York City. He is also the Founder of Entrepreneurs Roundtable, which holds meetings connecting investors with startups through introductions and pitches. Previously he started a series of technology startups, including the location-based social network Centrl. He is a Mentor at World Bank's InfoDev program, and a Partner at US State Department's Global Entrepreneurship Program.
Mark Wachen is the Managing Director of DreamIt NYC, a leading startup accelerator program. He is also the Managing Director and Founder of Upstage Ventures, which advises and invests in consumer internet and interactive marketing companies. Further, he is a Board member of Optify and OrderGroove, and has worked with other startups including ChaiLabs (acquired by Facebook), SeatGeek, YouNow, Thumb, GameChanger, STELLAService, RJMetrics, and CatchAFire. Prior to Upstage, Mark was Founder of Optimost, which pioneered multivariable testing.
