Michigan Radio's State of Opportunity is kicking off National Volunteer Week (April 12-18) with a special "Day of Opportunity" on Saturday, April 11. On this day, we're encouraging our listeners to spend some of their time with us performing community service in their area.
In Flint, we've partnered with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan procures food from surpluses in the grocery industry. The Food Bank serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food on behalf of its Partner Agencies, which are non-profit charitable organizations serving those in need. The Red Cross, Salvation Army and church food pantries are examples of the Food Bank's partners.
Volunteers at Food Bank of Eastern Michigan will organize and sort food donations.
All registered volunteers will receive a Michigan Radio "Day of Opportunity" t-shirt.
