WV Artist's Grant Workshop

On Tuesday November 29 at 2pm artist and grant professional grant writer Kate McComas will share her experiences and expertise with the Professional Development for Individual Artists Grant from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.  West Virginia residents who are musicians, authors, visual artists and craftspersons can apply for up to $2500 for a project, classes or apprenticeship. College students can not apply. Non-profit arts organizations can also apply for up to $5,000 though this program for projects benefiting individual artists.

"I wrote a grant for Heritage Farm last year for $5,000 worth of spinning wheels and quilting tools to teach classes at the farm. As a first time applicant Heritage Farm had to provide a 25% cash match." says McComas.  She will be using these tools to teach a spinning class on November 19th.

The workshop will be held November 29 at 2pm at Unlimited Future, 1650 8th Avenue in Huntington.  The cost of the workshop is $25.  To register go to www.unlimitedfuture.org or call 304-697-3007.

McComas is a weaver, spinner and natural dyer. She holds a Master’s Degree in Art from Marshall University where she taught for 5 years. McComas worked as the Individual Artist Coordinator for the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, at MountainMade Foundation, at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences and recently left her job as grant writer for the Huntington Museum of Art. She is currently a freelance grant writer and arts program developer.
