February 2018 Teen Science Café
Sex in the Sea: The Importance of Reproduction in Marine Conservation Biology

This month’s speaker is a marine biologist—something brand new for our Teen Café program! Curious about what’s happening to our planet’s oceans? Want to learn about some crazy underwater animal behavior? Dr. Marah Hardt is passionate about marine conservation biology and coral reef ecology, and she’s the author of Sex in the Sea, a book about the many bizarre and complicated reproductive behaviors of marine organisms and how humans are threatening their survival by altering the conditions in which they reproduce. We’ll cover topics ranging from the technology scientists use to study animals that are super hard to observe in person, the amazing biology of fish that change sex as they grow, to what we all can do here in Colorado to help conserve marine life.
