National Week of Deliberation | Youth & Opportunity

Please join us on Tuesday April 12th at 5:00pm ET/2:00pm PT for a online deliberative forum during the Spring 2022 National Week of Deliberation CGA forum series. We'll be discussing the issue "Youth and Opportunity: What Should We Do For Future Generations To Thrive?"

This forum series connects college students from across the country to disucss and make choices together about today's most pressing, wicked issues. As more campuses become ideological bubbles, this initiative hopes to give students a space to talk across geographic and ideological divides to see what common ground we have to act.

During our 90 minute deliberation, we will be discussing what we should do to address unprecedented challenges that may hinder future generations from leading successful and economically secure lives. The issue discussion guide outlines three different ways of considering the issue. Each suggests actions we might take, along with trade-offs we would have to accept. Altogether, these options allow participants to explore important values and tensions shared by many. Information in this guide raises crucial questions for which there are no easy answers.

Option 1: Equip People to Succeed

Option 2: Give Everyone A Fair Chance

Option 3: Focus on Economic Security

Bolstering the chances of success for future generations requires us to consider choices that cut across conventional partisan lines and generational differences. What course of action should be a priority as we plan for the future.
