THE ART OF FOOD & COMMUNITY AWARDS LUNCH

Chaired by Fady Armanious & Bill Baldwin

Recipe for Success invites you to join in recognizing some of our most inspiring community activists who are dedicated to building Houston into a world-class city. Featuring a menu crafted by Chef Greg Martin, Chef Ryan Pera and Chef Monica Pope, and kids participating in our culinary programs, this luncheon celebrates the power of a shared meal to shape conversation, culture and communities.

 Honorees 

Philamena Baird     

Philamena is stalwart in the Houston community. For decades, she has thrown her considerable philanthropic and volunteer energy into expanding our visual and performing arts, education and health care systems. She has chaired nearly every gala from the Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera to Memorial Hermann Hospital, plus other events too numerous to recount. She has tirelessly served on many boards including the Jung Education Institute, and is the founding President of the Harris County Education Foundation.


Claire Thielke

A Managing Director at Hines and community activist, Claire is also a former Recipe for Success Foundation Board member. After chairing a $15 million  capital campaign for Legacy Community Health to build two new clinics in Houston, she continues to commit her energy to arts and civic causes, like the Preservation Alliance's Pier & Beam, and Houston Grand Opera's Opening Nights, as well as serve on the boards of ARTBridge and Buffalo Bayou Partnership.

 

Dr. Sippi Khurana

Sippi strengthens Houston both in her professional and personal endeavors. A Rheumatologist, Immunologist and Internist in private practice, she has been named an H Texas magazine Top Doc for three consecutive years. Sippi’s charitable work includes serving on the Boards of Directors for the Houston Symphony, UNICEF Southwest Region, Pratham USA, American India Foundation, The Women’s Home and Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston.

 

Bettina Elias Siegel

Bettina was an early volunteer for the Foundation, a local advocate for healthy school lunches and a nationally recognized writer and commentator on matters relating to children and food policy. Her blog, The Lunch Tray, is a national influencer with thousands of readers and her writing on children and food has appeared in the New York Times, the Guardian, the Houston Chronicle, the Huffington Post and Civil Eats. She has also launched three Change.org petitions relating to school children and food, all which went viral, snared national media attention, and ended in victories.


 

Hallie Vanderhider 

Managing Director of SFC Energy Partners, Hallie focuses her philanthropy on education and arts. She sits on the Advisory Board for the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University, where she has endowed a Chair in the Accounting College. A benefactor of the Museum of Fine Arts, The Space Center, Memorial Hermann Foundation and many others, she is chairing The Ballet Ball 2018. Hallie is also a Champagne Cowgirl and on the Board of the Houston Producer’s Forum.
