“The Art of Dying:
a Vedanta Hindu Perspective”

Pravrajika Brahmaprana
Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of North Texas

 Monday, October 12, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

The October program continues the fruitful focus on various aspects of death and daying from diverse faith perspectives, this time through the lens of Vedanta Hinduism.  Vedanta one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy, well known for its intellectual depth, a non-dual perspective, and a commitment to religious unity.  In 2007 the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of North Texas inaugurated its monastery and chapel in Irving, has gradually developed a larger and vibrant community and recently expanded its facilities.

Pravrajika Brahmaprana, is an ordained sannyasini of the Vedanta Society of Southern California, at the Sarada Convent, since 1973.  She has been a Vedanta representative on several interfaith councils in America, including the renowned Snowmass Interspiritual Dialog, founded by Fr. Thomas Keating, O.C.S.O.; a guest lecturer at schools, colleges, and universities in America and India; and has participated in interfaith and scholastic seminars in America and abroad.

Brahmaprana has compiled and edited several books on Vedanta, including The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Volume 9; Vivekacudamani of Sri Sankaracarya, translated by Swami Turiyananda; and With the Swamis in America and India. She has also written numerous articles on the philosophy and practice of Vedanta for journals and anthologies in America and abroad. Brahmaprana is currently the resident minister of the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of North Texas in Dallas.

Following Brahmaprana's presentations, participants will meet in clusters to discuss their personal reactions to the information that has been presented, followed by a period of Q&A and dialogue.

The 2nd Community programs offer information, but our primary objective is for participants to become engaged with each other.  We believe that we best bridge whatever separates us from those from cultures and religious traditions different from our own by getting to know each other as human beings with similar aspirations for our lives.

Please join us on October 12 and put our next program Monday, November 9th on your calendar.

Northaven provides child care without charge to enable parents to attend events.  You may request child care when you register.  The church prefers advance notice, with information about the number and age of children, which can be indicated when registering.
