Reducing Turnover & Absenteeism
A Learning Seminar
 by Dr. Noel Palmer

Whether it’s an issue of showing up late, not showing up at all, or leaving the job altogether, employee turnover and absenteeism (also called withdrawal) pose significant challenges for organizations. Consider that the hiring process alone is time consuming and expensive—averaging over $4,000 per hire in 2016. Then, add the cost of lost productivity and low morale. First, this session covers some of the primary causes for employee withdrawal. Next, strategies for reducing withdrawal are presented. Concepts of employee commitment and satisfaction are also discussed.

Dr. Palmer is the Director of the MBA and Executive Education programs in the College of Business and Technology at UNK and is an Associate Professor of Management, teaching courses in organizational behavior, leadership, and business ethics.  Dr. Palmer has also served in the U.S. Army for 23 years. He is a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, currently serving in the Department of Command, Leadership, and Management at the United States Army War College. He earned a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY and attended graduate school at UNL, earning his Master’s in business with a minor in psychology and a Ph.D. in management. He also holds a Master’s in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
