"Opioids & Using the Prescription Montoring Program"

This course will fulfill the TSBDE Rule 111.1 requirement.
This program will:
- Provide an overview of the nationwide problem involving opioid prescriptions
- Discuss the role that DEA is taking to combat the opiod crisis that has plagued communities across the country
- Discuss the role that practitioners can take to prevent diversion from occurring in their practice
- Provide a review of the history of the prescription monitoring program in Texas
- Review how to use the Prescription Monitoring Program to assist in making clinical decisions when dispensing controlled substance prescriptions
Katherine Brown is the Diversion Program manager with the Houston Division Office Diversion Group of the DEA. She has oversight of the overall operation of the Diversion Program within the Southern region of Texas.
Allison Benz is Director of Professional Services with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and has been with the agency sine 1994. She oversees the operation of the Texas Prescription Monitoring Program.
