Worship for All Ages Renaissance Module - Newly Revised!

Leaders:

Pat Kahn, Children and Families Program Director, Unitarian Universalist Association

Kathy Strawser, Director of Lifespan Development, West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, Cleveland, OH

The overall vision for the new Worship Renaissance module is to:

  • welcome and acknowledge the skills, passions, experience and needs of its participants as planners and leaders of worship for children, youth, adults and multigenerational groups.
  • explore the nature and purpose of worship and religious language - what it means in the past and present, personal experiences of the participants, what voices from a variety of sources have to say about the nature and experience of worship, and how these matter to the crafting of worship experiences.
  • provide resources, guidelines, and hands-on activities to design worship services that are inclusive of diverse ages, learning styles, identities and spiritual needs.
  • demonstrate cultural competence in worship design and leadership.
  • help participants embrace the breadth and depth of worship possible in Unitarian Universalist settings.
  • understand the religious educator's role in workshop is not limited to children's worship or the brief time for all ages when providing a story, but includes leadership in all worship formats including life passages such as child dedication and Coming of Age.
  • lift up the importance of multi-generational worship, which has a home in every UU congregation, no matter its size.
  • promote sharing and collaboration among participants so that they leave with a deeper sense of relationship to the sacred, an enthusiasm and gratitude for the support of colleauges, a sense of being challenged and affirmed by the module and a "tool box" of resources, experiences, next steps and scripts to empower them to bring the best worship to their congregations.
