You are Invited!

Join afterschool professionals in Iowa from all areas and levels of expertise - administrators, directors, front-line staff, educators, out-of-school time partner organizations, and others - for our 4th Annual Conference (child care credits will be offered through the DHS Training Registry!)

School-age professional development conference and networking opportunity with statewide afterschool professionals and educators.

Two pre-conference tracks on Wednesday, April 27, are optional for attendees! If you sign up for the pre-conference, registration will open at noon on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the Ramada. An afternoon snack will be provided on Wednesday.

Pre-Conference Track I (1:00 - 3:00 p.m.) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Interactive "Slime" Activity along with a framework for facilitating quality STEM that attendees can take home with them! 
    
Pre-Conference Track II (1:00 - 4:00 p.m.): 21st Century Community Learning Centers
(Specific to Iowa's 21st Century Community Learning Centers grantee directors only).

* If you are not attending the pre-conference, registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast on Thursday morning, April 28 and ends on April 29 at 1:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served both days.

Emily Lang & Kristopher Rollins
RunDSM is an urban arts organization within Des Moines Public Schools that empowers youth to speak on issues of social justice and directly impact their community through positive self-expression. By providing our city's young people access to urban art forms via unfiltered, unadulterated spaces, we validate their voices, stories, and experiences.
Words Taylor
 A Spoken Word Poet who has always admired the power of voice as a tool for hope in our lives. He has made it his personal mission to equip every young person and adult with this tool and believes there is freedom in knowing the power of our words.
Michael Vukovich
 Vukovich is the Principal of North High School in Des Moines, which has been named a 21st Century School, an Apple Distinguished School, recognized by USA Today for diversity, recognized by Edutopia for AP increases and open access, and visited by President Obama and Secretary Duncan because of the turnaround success in an urban district. Vukovich will speak on tailoring afterschool programming to meet the needs of the kids we serve.
 
  Sessions for serving the K-12 age range of students will be offered. The conference will conclude with a performance by Movement 515 youth. Movement 515 is an urban arts community; they work toward becoming change agents and shedding light on the impact that human emotion and connection bring to the global community.

The conference fee is $150 (includes the optional pre-conference if you choose to attend). If you are planning on attending the pre-conference, please indicate that during your registration process. If you are ONLY attending the pre-conference, there is only a $15.00 fee.
A range of local exhibitors will be featured, include youth-serving organizations and statewide, afterschool partners!
