"Couching" - the boundaries between Coaching and Counselling - with William Devine & Dr Helen Holgate
You are invited to attend our forthcoming CPD Event, aimed at experienced and qualified coaches.
The workshop will facilitate an exploration of the hinterland which exists between the Coaching and Psychotherapeutic domains as we work with our clients in their organisations, teams, groups or as individuals.
Rather than be expert led our intention is for the workshop to explore and co-create new insights and understanding to allow us to better serve our clients, and improve our own coaching capabilities.
The possible outcomes of the session for you, will include: -
- Identification as to which client systems and domains of work are the most competent to work within, and are correctly contracted.
- An awareness of the evolution and practice of Couching – as a hybrid of coaching and counselling
- An appreciation of the movement developing greater Psychological and Psychotherapeutic competence for coaches.
- An understanding of how the psychotherapeutic assessment practice can assist in evaluating the level of readiness a clients has for Coaching?
- How to respond should a psychopathology such as borderline or narcissistic personality disorder, self-harming, addiction, suicidal ideation, chronic stress and trauma show up in Coaching - what is ethical, professional and in service of our clients, ourselves and our profession as coaches.
- What resources and strategies beyond coaching supervision might be available to help our clients and ourselves?
- An understanding of the lowest common denominators that require consideration when a coach is confronted with distress or psychopathology in a client - e.g our ethical duty to do no harm, the risk of litigation and damage to professional or brand reputation.
The Event will be delivered by William Devine and Dr Helen Holgate.
William works as a Senior Executive Coach and Systemic Coach with senior people, leaders, teams and organisations in the corporate, public and third sector. He leads the Coaching Practice of the MK-LF Partnership Top Flight Pipeline Programme a unique business which helps some of the UK’s top businesses and organisations develop its senior female talent. William is also a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist of 15 years’ experience and Senior Trauma Consultant, he owns and runs Central London Counselling Services Ltd (CLCS Ltd) a bespoke service delivering psychological services to organisations both in the UK and abroad.
Helen is a Counsellor, Trainer and Trauma Consultant working with CLCS Ltd, she is also a former Foster carer and is now Vice Chair of the Fostering Network supporting over 60,000 UK Foster carers.

Timings: Registration will be from 12.30 with a view to starting the workshop at 13.00, and as it is lunchtime for this particular event we will be offering a light sandwich lunch during registration.
