SESSION 2 - TRANSITION IEP
Transition is one of the most important times of a student's school career. Planning for transition from high school to the adult world of work, post-secondary education and training, and independent living takes a team of people helping the students along the way. This training will provide participants with information on IDEA and the Rehab Act, the two laws that overlap the transition process. Participants will learn about the elements of transition, receive an overview of the new Postsecondary Transition Plan (PTP) online program that school districts use, and will leave with resources and knowledge on how to develop a solid transition plan.
Do you have a teen with a developmental disability?
Do you have solid plans for your child when he/she becomes an adult? TRAILS will assist you in blazing a trail tailored for your teen's adulthood. For parent/guardian/caregivers of a child with autism, Asperger Syndrome, and other developmental disabilities, age 14-21. Don't wait until your child is an adult to start planning!
Each of the five evening workshops will focus on a different topic. Topics covered generally include transition IEP, employment, adult benefits (Family Care and IRIS), and futures planning. Sign up for all 5, or pick and chose your dates.
Series TRAIL guide is Gail Kolvenbach. She has been down this trail before, parenting a young adult with autism, as a family advocate, and working with school systems. She is a wealth of knowledge about adult services, and will help us stay on track. Additional information will come from speakers at each session.
UPCOMING 2014 TRAILS dates: April 10th, May 15, and June 5th.

Jennifer Bourget is the Transition Specialist at CESA #1. She will be presenting on the components of a transition IEP. Parents are members of the IEP team, and when your child turns 14, there are transition components to the IEP that you need to be aware of to make sure your child gets what he or she needs to transition from high school to a job or post-secondary education. Learn what you need to know to advocate effectively for your child and participate fully in the IEP process.
This session will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the ASSEW offices. Light snacks will be served. Cost for the first participant is $10 per session for members, $15 per session for non-members. Each participant may bring a spouse, partner, or family member for an additional $5.
