Sibshops are opportunities for brothers and sisters of children with special needs to obtain peer support and education within a recreational setting. They are safe environments in which a child can express his or her concerns, but also be proud of their sibling with special needs. This model is designed for children ages 8-13.
We are offering a series of Sibshops in Elkhorn at Lakeland School. You may sign up for as many as your wish, or try one and sign up for more later! We must have a minimum of 8 participants to hold a Sibshop, and the maximum we can accommodate is 20. Refunds will only be given if the Sibshop is cancelled.
An application must be filled out for each participant and sent back to the Autism Society. Download the application form here.
What are Sibshops?
Sibshops have proven successful in creating a stronger bond between siblings, as well as a safe environment for “sibs” without disabilities to address any concerns he or she may be having in trying to address their sibling’s disabilities. The workshops provide a fun environment that will allow a child the opportunity to receive these services while participating in games and activities, and the making of a light lunch.
Five Goals of Sibshops
Each Sibshop is $10. Register for each individually. Only 1 application per participant needs to be filled out each school year. Refunds are given only if we cancel a class. To register for a date, click on it. If you prefer to send in a form with a check, you can download a registration form here.
