Town of Gorham Supervisor, Co-Chair of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council, and Local Farmer

9:00 - 10:00 Keynote Speaker: Jim Hershey
"Managing For Healthier Soils and Cleaner Water"
Jim will discuss the impact of no-till and cover crops on soil health, soil nutirents, weed and pest supression and crop yields.

11:00 - 11:30 Karl Czymmek: Cornell PRODAIRY
"Soil Resilience: Back to Basics"
Karl will review soil features, types of soil organic matter and the important role of soil conservation to maintain soil productivity. He will discuss practical results from a long term manure and compost project.

11:30 - 12:00 Klaas Martens, Lakeview Organic Farm
Klaas will discuss his soil practices and how he manages cover crops and pests in an organic farming system.

1:00 - 1:30 Jaime Cummings, NYS IPM Field Crops and Livestock Coordinator
"Pests and Diseases in Corn and Soybean : Management in No-Till Systems"

They will discuss what you need to know about protecting your farm with a conservation easement.

The Soil Health Workshop will conclude at 2:00 pm. For those interested in the Manure Applicator Training, please indicate this on your registration form. Pre-Registration for this training is required. There is no additional fee.

2:00 - 3:00 DEC Approved Manure Application Training, Karl Czymmek: Cornell PRODAIRY
1.5 DEC Pesticide Applicator Training Credits and 4.5 CCA CEUs
Required training for staff of Large (at least 2 people) and Medium CAFO's. Review of CAFO Permit requirements for manure application, what to watch for, wet and winter weather concerns, etc Certificates of attendance will be issued (must keep in your CAFO records). All are welcomed to attend.
