The Washington Council of Lawyers is pleased to host a two-hour brown bag litigation skills training session focused on delivering an effective opening statement. Through lecture and demonstration, we will review the basics of organizing, writing, and presenting an opening statement that will get your trial off to a good start. Then, you will be on your feet to put those ideas into practice through small group breakout sessions guided by experienced litigators.

Our lecturer will be Heather Pinckney, partner at Harden and Pinckney, PLLC, a boutique law firm specializing in the areas of criminal defense litigation, contract, divorce and family law.   Before entering into private practice, Ms. Pinckney served as the Deputy Chief of the Trial Division for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where she assisted in the management and day to day operations of the trial division and supervised over 60 attorneys litigating criminal cases in the District of Columbia Superior Court.  Heather is a frequent lecturer for the Washington Council of Lawyers Litigation Skills Training programs, and we are delighted to have her return for this specialized course focused exclusively on opening statements.

Materials for the training will be sent via email about one week prior to the training. If you have not received the materials by January 12, please contact Nancy Lopez.

The cost of the training is $24 for WCL members and $50 for non-members.
