Looking into Low Bono: Models of Support for Reduced Fee Practitioners

Looking into Low Bono is a year-long series of conversations about the delivery of affordable legal services to persons of modest means in the District of Columbia.

Join us on Tuesday, December 9, from noon - 2 pm at Steptoe & Johnson LLP (1330 Connecticut Avenue NW) for a discussion focused on ways of providing training, mentoring and support to attorneys offering reduced fee services to persons of modest means. Solo practitioners, small firms, and non-profits are looking for ways to provide high quality legal services at reasonable rates to persons of modest means.

Our panelists will be:

  • Cheryl Hystad, Civil Justice, Inc.  Cheryl will tell us about how Civil Justice, Inc., has developed, and what types of mentoring and support they provide to attorneys serving persons of modest means.
  • Dan Mills, DC Bar, Practice Management Advisory Services.  The D.C. Bar's practice management advisory Service offers free trainings, advice, consultations, and resources relating to legal ethics  and law office management, and sponsors networking and professional development events and programs for D.C. lawyers.
  • Melanie Murray Mfume, Law Office of Melanie Murray Mfume, a member of Civil Justice, Inc., who practices primarily in the areas of family law, foreclosure defense and foreclosure mediation, bankruptcy, landlord and tenant, consumer protection, civil mediation and civil litigation.

Our program will be moderated by Jennifer Lyman, DC Bar, Office of Bar Counsel.

Lunch will be provided, thanks to the generous hospitality of Steptoe & Johnson LLP.

Come ready to participate in this important discussion!

This program is co-sponsored by:
