Jerry Horton, Founder of Down Home Ranch to Keynote Sunshine Housing Speaker Series

Sunshine Social Club Housing Speaker Series is proud to announce our next speaker: Jerry Horton, founder of Down Home Ranch.

The Sunsine Housing Speaker Series brings nationally recognized housing experts to the Central Indiana special needs community to inform, inspire and foster meaningful dialogue about housing for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Lisa Batts, Sunshine Social Club Founder, was inspired to launch her organization after visiting Down Home Ranch.  Imagine her delight when Mr Horton offered in April of this year to mentor the Sunshine Social Club in it's housing initiative!

Down Home Ranch is a working farm and ranch, founded in 1989 by parents, Judy and Jerry Horton, of a young daughter born with Down syndrome four years prior.

30 years later, the Hortons and Down Home Ranch are national leaders in the movement to provide excellent, workable models for providing for the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also helped found the Coalition for Community Choice to counter attempts to limit housing choices for people with IDD and exclude Village Communities from government support. The Founders retired in 2016 and are continuing to work to improve the lives of people with IDD.

Recently, the Hortons founded a new organization, Point Rider.

Point Rider’s mission is to consult and guide families and organizations, to help create affordable , sustainable housing options for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Point Rider provides pro bono and contracted consulting services to guide families and organizations from start-up to opening their doors for adults with IDD.

We invite you to come and listen to the inpiring life story of Jerry Horton  - how he founded a housing community, became a national leader in housing and his vision for the future of housing.

Sunshine Social Club is proud to be the third project for Point Rider.

Come, join us, and learn from this legend in the world of housing for adults with intellecutal or developmental disabilities.

Point Riders’ mission is help point a way forward for parents and groups wanting to create affordable and accommodating homes and communities for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities
