WRSR Orienteering Odyssey
Orienteering Odyssey is a special event for all scouts and scouters to earn their bragging rights as best orienteer in Cimarron Council. This will be a scored orienteering competition. Basic orienteering workshops will be held on Friday evening, and Saturday morning for late arrivals.
There will be entry divisions for all scouting levels.You may only compete in one division. Teams need to be a minimum of 2 people but no more than 4. All Cub Scout teams will need two registered adults on their team.
The entry fee for Orienteering Odyssey is $20 per participant. Any registrations received after February 21, 2020 will be $30.
Additional Event Information
Each team will need to have a watch and a compass.
Camping will be offered Friday & Saturday night. Packs and Troops will be under their own leadership for camping.
A light continental breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
The camp grounds open Friday, March 6th at 5pm for packs and troops to camp out. The check in for the eventwill be Friday night from 6-7 or Saturday morning from 7-8:30am. No additional entries will be accepted afterthis time. Please be prepared to submit all team rosters when you check in. The competition will begin at 9am.
There will be ribbons for 1st-3rd place in each division.There will be a traveling trophy for best average pack/troop/crew score at the event. In case of a tie, fastest average finish time wins. Event will happen rain or shine.
Event Rules:
- This is a team event. All team members must register. Minimum size is 2 and maximum size is 4. Cub Scout adults do not count toward team size.
- Teams must start together, stay together, and finish together. This is a safety procedure. You must check in together at the end of the race so we know all participants are off the course.Time will not be recorded until all members of the team are across the finish line.
- Maps will be handed out at start time. Each team will only be issued one map and score card.
- Teams have 2 hours to complete the course.
- Controls can be visited in any order. The goal is to score as many points as possible in the allowed time. Controls are assigned different point values based on their difficulty from 5 points to 30 points. It is highly unlikely you will be able to find them all during the time allowed.
- Crossing the finish line after the specified time limit will result in a penalty of 5 points per minute.
- All team members must have full canteens or water bottles. There will be water refill points along the course.
- The use of GPS or other electric navigation aids is not allowed. Phones may be carried for emergencies.
- Teams may not collaborate or share information with other team members except for safety or medical emergencies. Teams are expected to help others in emergency situations. Adults with Cub Scouts should focus on ensuring the safety of their group.
- Tampering with course, control points, interfering with other teams, disrespect for camp or personal property, disrespect for wildlife, or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification.
