Greening Cream & Crimson Football - 30.October - Game Day Challenge (versus Northwestern)

The 2010 IU football season is the first-ever season-long green campaign. The October 30th game versus Northwestern is the perfect venue to showcase our green accomplishments. On Saturday, October 30th, Indiana University will be competing against ninety other universities as part of the 2010 EPA Game Day Challenge. The Game Day Challenge is a friendly competition for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction at their football games. Help IU have the best first-year numbers of any debuting schools. Be part of our team!

The Greening Cream and Crimson initiative will continue to green IU athletic events, utilizing our dedicated volunteers (you!), during IU men's regular-season football games. The Cream & Crimson Green Team will be the first in a long line of dedicated volunteer teams working to expand issues related to sustainability within Indiana University Athletics.

Volunteers will receive:
A Free Greening Cream and Crimson t-shirt
Free entrance into the stadium
Free food at at the event itself
The honor of being a core component of the FIRST Green and Crimson Green Team

 Game Day Initiatives:
  • Recycling during tailgating pilot – Volunteers will circulate the tailgating area, instructing fans on the proper techniques – will distribute bags (clear for recycling, black for trash) and educate and encourage fans to recycle
  • Recycling inside Memorial Stadium – Volunteers will co-locate garbage and recycling bins in the stadium, educate and encourage fans to recycle, and supervise recycling of aluminum, plastic, cardboard, etc. in the stadium
  • Vendor waste reduction – Supervised recycling should assist in reducing contamination of cardboard, paperboard - greenware pilot - 100% compostable corn-based "plastics"
  • Eco Cell phone collection – Volunteers will supervise collection of cell phones for recycling – recycled phones reduce the destruction to gorilla habitat and proceeds from our effort benefit campus sustainability
  • Bike Valet  –Volunteers will valet bicycles on the west concourse of the stadium and at the initiative tent – encouraging alternate methods of transportation to athletic events
Thank you! We look forward to having you on our team!
