Options and Incentives to Improve Energy Efficiency in Schools

Energy costs are second only to personnel costs in K-12 school district budgets. School districts show responsible stewardship of public resources by reducing energy usage and saving tax dollars.  U.S. EPA estimates that schools can reduce energy costs by 30% by implementing energy efficiency measures (retrofitting facilities and promotion of behavioral and operational measures to conserve energy). Energy-efficient school buildings also provide:

  • Hands-on examples for students to learn about smart energy management
  •  Opportunity to adapt curricula to promote awareness of energy and environmental issues
  •  Chance to engage students in monitoring their school’s energy consumption
  •  Positive effects on school security and student safety

This workshop focuses on how school districts can improve energy efficiency in existing, renovated and new K-12 schools; reduce energy costs, and create a range of environmental, economic, and educational benefits.

Topics Include:

  • The benefits of energy efficiency in K-12 schools
  • Approaches to improving energy efficiency in new and existing schools
  • Implementation strategies for effective programs
  • Investment and financing opportunities, including NJ Board of Public Utilties' programs that provide financial and technical assistance
  • Case studies of school districts that have successfully improved energy efficiency

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:   School district administrators including energy program managers and school board members

Registration and Networking:  3:00 PM

Program:  3:30-5:30 PM
