The New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance will conduct an environmental justice and cumulative impacts workshop for Sustainable Jersey on April 30 in Newark.
A central concern of environmental justice is the disproportionate burden of pollution that has been widely documented in communities of color and low-income neighborhoods. Only recently have cumulative impacts been recognized by environmental policymakers as critical issues that must be addressed. Cumulative impacts involve multiple interacting sources of pollution that are inadequately controlled by our current laws and regulations.
The workshop will provide general information on both environmental justice and cumulative impacts, as well as involve workshop participants in a discussion of possible solutions for the problem of cumulative impacts in New Jersey. The workshop will end with a tour of several environmental justice neighborhoods in Newark.
