Attorneys at Quinn, Johnston, Henderson, Pretorius, and Cerulo will present current developments and new trends related to government and liability. 

At this conference participants will:

  • Understand liability as a result of inadequate hiring procedures/training and supervisory officer liability
  • Gain insight on the status of Monell - recent interpretations on the long-standing principal of municipality liability
  • Review excessive force issues - brutality cases and due process
  • Understand the basics of the rights and procedures under the Illinois Public Labor Relations Act and the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Act

  • Receive guidance on addressing Unfair Labor Practices under both the IPLRA and IELRA

  • Recognize what a public body must do to meet the minimum requirements of FOIA
  • Understand eminent domain; how a typical eminent domain proceeding commences
  • Analyze "takings" under Illinois case law and statutes
  • Explore how utilities work within right-of-ways
  • Learn about free speech rights of public employees
  • Review recent related caselaw
  • Learn to apply recent developments in the law to discipline of public employees
