Topic:

A virtual tour of the new Larimer County (CO) facility that is home to the newly established Emergency Operations Center. This center is critical for coordination during a large scale event, and has been many years in the making.

Shayle will also be reviewing the "resilience metrics" that are being established for Their program. Larimer County's Office of Emergency Management is unique in that they focus efforts and center them around resilience, but this can often be difficult to measure. It is also true that emergency management is not the "lead" in many areas that define community resilience, which makes this even more challenging to determine if OEM is making an impact in our area. These metrics are being developed, but will be tested over the next few years, and welcome discussion around them!

Speaker: Shayle Sabo

Shayle hails from the fellow rocky mountain state of Idaho, moving to Colorado 5 years ago to join the Larimer OEM team. She is a graduate of Idaho State University at Pocatello, Idaho, where she studied International Relations and Political Science, and received her Master of Science in Disaster Resilience Leadership from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shayle's primary focus and passion as an Emergency Management Coordinator is on community-led resilience work, but she has worn multiple hats within the OEM office including Program Manager for Larimer Connects, which seeks to foster grassroots, community-centered resilience across Larimer County, and Pandemic Recovery Manager, helping to facilitate the COVID-19 Larimer Recovery Collaborative. In the Emergency Operations Center, Shayle is the Planning Section Chief and her role is to implement Larimer OEM's consequence management process to ensure a forward-leaning and flexible operation during events that impact Larimer County.
