Do I consistently look for the Silent Killer? An oral cancer examination update.

This hands-on course will review the traditional intra and extra oral examination now considered a standard of care during patient assessment. An introduction to newer methods that can be used in conjunction with the traditional screening to aid in early detection and appropriate referral will be discussed. Proper documentation of your findings is included in this course. Let’s update our skills and change the way we look for the silent killer!

The student will be able to:

  • discuss a review of head and neck structures involved in an oral cancer screening
  • recognize deviations from normal
  • demonstrate an oral cancer screening using correct technique and a systematic approach
  • demonstrate proper documentation of findings
  • state the functions and discuss the use of adjunctive screening technologies
  • recognize findings that may have implications on treatment planning
