Mindfulness Immersion (MI)
Mindfulness Inmersion (MI) is a 4-day, 28-hour psycho-educational group intervention based on the curriculum of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program, with modifications designed to activate stress-reducing internal mechanisms, cultivate compassion for oneself and others, and increase effectiveness in interpersonal communications. Mindfulness practices have been consistently associated with decreased psychological distress, increased empathy, and improvement in relationship satisfaction. Mindfulness has also been shown to help increase memory functioning, focus, and cognitive flexibility in addition to a host of other improvements in overall well-being.
When we bring mindfulness and compassion into our communication with others, the resultcan be a significant deepening of our understanding of others, and greater harmony in ourrelationships. Mindfulness Immersion is an experiential training that integrates mindfulness and compassion practices to hone skillful listening.
Program activities include meditation, gentle mindful movement, experiential exercises, group discussion, and didactic educational components. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MI. Experienced practitioners of mindfulness will also benefit from the way that this program weaves its core elements. Home practice related to activities of daily life is assigned each day.
