Spring 2015: Webconferenced Class

Foundations and Practice of Pastoral Counseling
Instructor: Rev. Wayne Gustafson, D.Min.

This 20 contact hour course addresses the basics of counseling in a variety of situations where there is a pastoral element in the professional relationship: from the parish setting, where counseling may happen even in the chance encounter over refreshments after worship, to the professional counselor's office, where it may be the structured and focused deep healing of pastoral psychotherapy.

Utilizing theoretical and practical perspectives, the course encourages participants to develop a clearly articulated picture of the strengths and limitations of one's pastoral and professional role, skills, and setting.

9:30am-4:45pm (with 1/2 hr. break for lunch)

Students will connect to the large group via webex. Other webconferencing technologies will be used to allow for small group exercises).

Distance Learning requires technological support.  The NY Conference provides that support for its  students; we ask other UCC Conferences and participating denominations to provide that support for their students ($69 per course or $133 per semester).  When students outside the NY Conference register, we recommend that they ask their UCC Conferences or denominations to contribute the distance learning support fee (payment can be made at www.uccny.org: click on donate button and specify "DLSF" with student's name on the NYSOM line).  If no wider church support is available, the Distance Learning Support Fee is the student's responsiblity.
