Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the implications of Phasing a project and how this affects egress and fire separation between the open Phase I and Phase II that is under construction.
2. Discuss the challenges of tying Phase I which is all new construction to Phase II which is a total renovation of an existing building built in 1972 in terms of system integration due to limited floor to floor height and expansion joints both vertical and horizontal.
3. Review construction techniques specifically materials of the exterior skin that tie the building into the existing campus.
4. Review the consideration of what structure is to be kept as part of the selective demolition of an existing building as part of Phase II.
