Melovino Meadery is a family-run business located in Vauxhall, NJ. Meadmaker Sergio Moutela grew up making wine with his grandfather - bottling, corking and even stomping grapes. As an adult, he began making wine, beer and other fermented creations at home. This exploration led him to the discovery of mead and the establishment of the Melovino Meadery.
In its simplest form, mead is a mix of honey and water fermented with yeast creating a tasty beverage in many varieties. Join NJ IFMA for this unique tour of, and tastings at, this little known NJ gem. The tour will include an entertaining and informative experience learning about mead, its history and how Melovino Meadery came to be the first meadery in NJ.
A tour of the production area will showcase where the mead is fermented, bottled and packaged and an overview of the mead-making process. Several handcrafted meads will be available for tasting.
