Texas Community Schools Summit- June 7-8, 2021

Join teams from schools across Texas for a two-day hybrid virtual/in-person summit that will provide tools for building thriving community school efforts. Whether you are new to the idea of community schools or already have an effort underway, you’ll find helpful information, ideas and networking. Sponsored by Texas Community Schools Coalition, Save Texas Schools, Austin Voices for Education and Youth, Austin ISD, Texas AFT, Texas State Teachers Association and Communities in Schools.

This year's theme is "Re-Engage." As we transition from this pandemic-affected school year, schools are looking for ways to help students and families re-connect and re-engage with education. Over two days, we'll consider the things we've learned over the past year and innovate strategies to help students and families deal with the lasting effects of the pandemic. Time will be split between learning and planning time, with each team presenting their plans and strategies at the end of the summit in a "Shark Tank" format, with the top presentations receiving funding that can be used on their campuses. Parents are welcomed (and encouraged) to take part, with Spanish interpretation provided both days. Teams should consist of a combination of campus administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and campus/community partners.

Note: The summit (similar to last year's) will be by zoom, but teams may choose to meet together on their campuses and participate in the summit as a group. Others teams may choose to have team members participate remotely (zoom breakout rooms will be provided for planning times). Either option will work.

Each participant will also receive a pdf notebook with summit materials.

What is a Community School?

Community Schools are neighborhood schools that bring together community partners, strong academics, student and family supports, out-of-school time programs and shared planning between parents, school and community to give students everything they need to be ready for college, career and life.
