Texas Community Schools Summit- June 6-8, 2018

Join teams from schools across Texas for a three-day summit that will provide tools for building thriving community school efforts! Whether you are new to the idea of community schools or already have an effort underway, you’ll find helpful information, ideas and networking. Sponsored by Texas Community Schools Coalition, Save Texas Schools, Austin Voices for Education and Youth, Austin ISD, and Texas AFT.

Day 1: Start the summit off with a day focused on the big picture in Texas, with stories about on-the-ground successes and the fight for community schools in the legislature. Network with local and state leaders. This is a great day to bring your administrators and decision-makers to learn about community schools. Sponsored by the Texas AFT, the Texas Community Schools Coalition and Ausitn Voices.

Day 2 and 3: Come for a day and a half of nuts and bolts learning, including lots of time to work with your team on community school planning. Last year we had 20 teams from around the state sharing ideas and getting ready for the next school year. We'll start and finish with fun activities based around the theme "Community Schools: A Recipe for Success!" Childcare and Spanish translation are available for teams that want to bring parents and community members. We'll wrap up at 2 pm on Friday.

What is a Community School?

Community Schools are neighborhood schools that bring together community partners, strong academics, student and family supports, out-of-school time programs and shared planning between parents, school and community to give students everything they need to be ready for college, career and life.

Summit Costs:

$35 individual registration.

(AISD individuals and teams are being funded separately. There is no registration fee.)

Materials and meals included (excluding Wednesday and Thursday night dinner).

A number of hotels, including Courtyard by Marriot and Doubletree, are convenient to Lanier HS.
