Beyond BOW - Eastern Iowa Fall Retreat

Join us for another great Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman weekend event! This women's weekend will include hunting wild edibles and squirrels, learning to make baskets and soap, and rock climbing and kayaking in Eastern Iowa with Naturalists from Jones, Jackson, Dubuque and Cedar Counties! The workshop will start at 5:30pm on Friday, September 13th and run through 4:00pm on Saturday, September 14th. 

Ladies will pick one morning session and one afternoon session.

   

Morning Sessions:
Wild Edible Foray
Join Jackson County Conservation Board Naturalists on a foray around Central Park. The session will start inside to talk about wild edibles and then we'll hike around and collect edibles. Everything collected will be prepared as part of lunch. 

OR

Squirrel Hunt with Mentors
Join Iowa DNR staff, hunter education instructors and conservation board staff on a mentored squirrel hunt! We'll start off talking about squirrel hunting basics and and safety talk. From there, we'll head outside for target practice, firearm orientation and hunt preparations. The mentored hunt will be held at Eby's Mill Wildlife Area.

Afternoon Sessions:
Weaving and Soap Making
Join Jackson County Conservation Board Naturalists and guest speakers for an introduction to basket weaving and basic soap making. 

OR

Rock Climbing and Kayaking
Join Climb On and Dubuque County Conservation as they rock climb at Pictured Rocks. Then participants have the opportunity to then learn basic kayaking or canoeing skills on Central Parks' newly renovated 25 acre lake with Jones County Conservation staff. Participants can choose to rock climb and kayak or just rock climb or kayak.
