Summer Sailing Program
June 24 - August 2, 2013

SUMMER CLASSES

This is a six week program...with a class for every level of sailor, novice through advanced racing:

  • Novice is a fun-filled class for children, ages 7 to 11.
  • Advanced Novice is designed for sailors who have successfully completed a full summer of Novice sailing at BCYC or equivalent, but are not yet ready for the C3 level racing.
  • C3, C2, C1, B, and A Racing sailors are divided into classes according to their ability. Rules, boat handling, and tactics are covered in these levels and racers also participate in a series of Bay Fleet regattas with the other clubs in Newport Harbor.
  •  The Sabot Nationals Program is available to children between 9-17 years of age. This program is open to Sabot A, B and C1 sailors working towards a strong finish at Sabot Nationals.
  •  The FJ Program is available to children typically between 13-18 years of age. The typical FJ racer has had a successful Sabot career in that he/she has advanced at least to the C1 fleet before moving on to a double-handed Club FJ boat.

STARFISH

Offered only in summer, the Starfish program consists of developmentally appropriate activities for 5-7 year-old children. This is an introductory class which provides them with knowledge about sailing, knot tying, safety, and water-related activities. Weekly activities include: sailing a variety of different boats (mostly Lido, some Sabot), swim lessons with our certified swimming instructor, and much more. Credentialed teachers plan a well-rounded curriculum of art activities, gross and fine motor skills development, dramatic play and educational outings. The class introduces Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, prominent features of Newport Harbor, safe water sport and boating practices, and serves as an introduction to the BCYC Junior Sailing Program. Starfish will sail on boats with their coaches.
