Understanding the EITC's Impact on a Community Level:

A Sneak Peek at the New and Improved EITC Interactive Data Tool

October 23, 2018 at 10am PDT; 11pm MDT; 12pm CDT; 1pm EDT

We know that the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of the nation’s most effective anti-poverty tools. In 2015, the EITC lifted approximately 6.5 people out of poverty across the U.S.

But we how do we learn more about the EITC’s contribution to poverty reduction in local communities? And what if we want to better understand who is claiming the federal tax credit?

The Earned Income Tax Credit Interactive data finder can help! This powerful data tool, soon to be housed at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center (TPC), provides users with access to IRS data on federal individual income tax filers who claim the EITC. The data are available for all ZIP codes, cities, counties, metropolitan areas, states, state legislative districts, and Congressional districts in the United States.

Learning more about the demographics and economic impact in your community can help you and your grantees develop informed strategies on tax credit outreach and VITA program performance.

Join us on October 23rd for a short, half-hour overview and introduction to the EITC Interactive at its new home! In addition to providing an overview of the full range of geographic layers currently available, the Tax Policy Center will demo a new interactive web tool allowing users to create and download personalized files.

Speakers include:

Richard Auxier, Research Associate, Tax Policy Center
Liz Brister, Manager of Low-Income Customer Initiatives, Entergy Services, Inc.
