Thomas “Tom” Gayner is President and Chief Investment Officer of Markel Corporation. Mr. Gayner is a member of Markel’s three-member Office of the President. He oversees the investing activities for the company, as well as the Markel Ventures diverse industrial and service businesses.

Mr. Gayner joined Markel in 1990 to form Markel Gayner Asset Management which provided equity investment counsel for Markel Corporation as well as outside clients.

Prior joining to Markel, Mr. Gayner served as vice president of Davenport & Co of Virginia and as a Certified Public Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Mr. Gayner serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Davis Series Mutual Funds and on the boards of the Colfax Corporation and Graham Holdings. He is a trustee of The Community Foundation of Richmond and a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Virginia Retirement System.

He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and The Lawrenceville School.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  The Council is responsible to pay for all meals included in the final registration count.  Should your plans or guests change, contact the Council Secretary no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1.

GUESTS and EMERITUS

The guest fee is $90. Guests must be registered in advance by a member. Guests who are in good standing at another region's Estate Planning Council must register in advance, but are not required to be sponsored by a member.

Emeritus members must be registered and the Emeritus fee is $85, unless already paid for the year. Checks should be made payable to the Estate Planning Council of Richmond.
