April 9 Richmond Estate Planning Council Meeting

David HallThe Speaker will be

David C. Hall    National Book Auctions     Ithaca NY

His topic is   "The Hidden Value in Collectible Books and Ephemera"

The advent of the internet forever changed the world of collectibles, but no category was more impacted than books and other collectible paper (ephemera). This market still has not stabilized and today, many valuable books do not immediately appear valuable. The quantity of books in the world trumps all other types of collectible property and the process of identifying value can be daunting and cryptic. Many estate book collections that are assumed to be of little value turn out to have contained highly prized, and priced, specimens. This program will provide an insider's view of the highly volatile past two decades in the world of reselling books and feature real-life examples of collectible books that have appreciated at astounding rates.

David Hall began bookselling in 1998, as the Internet book market was just beginning to form. He has since evolved various book-selling models through all the major online venues. In 2005, Hall launched National Book Auctions, a targeted service, offering experience and expertise unique to marketing both antique and modern books and ephemera. Over the years, National Book Auctions has sold over 175,000 volumes through traditional bricks-and-mortar locations and on the Internet. During that time, a number of trends have emerged which shaped the future of book collecting and book selling, and National Book Auctions has changed with the times. David Hall is also a USPAP-certified appraiser.
