February 5, 2013 Richmond Estate Planning Council Meeting

Albright, GeorgeThe Speaker will be

George F. Albright, Jr.
Managing Director and Virginia Business Head,
J.P. Morgan Private Bank

His topic is
"Dealing with the Generational Dynamics of Complex Families"

Governance, structural and wealth transfer planning become more difficult as patriarchs die and families expand, especially when transition events occur, such as after the sale of an operating business when the proceeds are distributed outside of a business entity solution. Issues arise when descendants are thrust into their ancestors’ position of running a business or foundation or maintaining the family compound, especially where distinctions exist between ownership, control and benefits. Pooling vehicles, foundations and family office structures are within, but not exclusive to, the scope of this program.

George Albright is a Wealth Advisor and the Virginia Business Head for the J.P. Morgan Private Bank.  Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, he practiced law as a partner in the law firm of what is now known as Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and was listed in Best Lawyers in America  while in private practice.  George is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and is a past Chairman of both the Virginia State Bar Trusts and Estates Section and The Fairfax Bar Association Wills, Trusts and Estates Section.

A frequent speaker, George has been selected as a faculty member by such organizations as The University of Miami Law School Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning and The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  He also is a co-author of Estate Planning in Virginia . In 2012, he was once again named one of the top wealth advisors in the DC metro area by Washingtonian Magazine.

George serves as a Trustee of both the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, and the Virginia Historical Society.  He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation.  He has also served as a Director of the Board of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce.  In addition, he has been a member of the Virginia State Bar Faculty on Professionalism and the Executive Council and Legislative Committee of the Virginia Bar Association’s Wills, Trusts and Estate Section.   George has served as an adjunct professor of law at the George Mason University School of Law where he also received his J.D. degree.  He earned a B.A. degree from Hampden-Sydney College.  In addition to his law license, he also holds both the Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.
