Food Safety is Good Business Workshop

Prepare your farm business for success with the guidance of one of the region's foremost experts. Organic farmer, author, and consultant Atina Diffley leads this all-day workshop that helps farmers tackle issues of food safety, sorting and packing, marketing, and post-harvest handling. The registration fee is $30 per person, and $15 per person for additional people from the same family or farm.

Participating farmers will receive a free copy of the Wholesale Success manual. Normally a $70 value, this 316 page manual is newly updated and in its fourth printing. Wholesale Success covers up-to-date best practices information on food safety, postharvest handling, packing, business management, marketing, and crop-specific profiles for over 100 crops.

All participants should bring 3 copies of a farm map for their farm, greenhouse or other type of operation.  Maps can be a pen sketch-line drawing, a copy of a survey, or a satellite image (printed from Goodle Maps). The map should include any/all of the following elements:

• Fields
• Water Sources
• Traffic/Movement Flow (to & from fields)
• Tools & Equipment
• Postharvest Areas
• Finished Product Storage Area
• Bathroom Facilities
• Hand Wash Areas
• Livestock Area (including adjacent land)
• Break Areas
• Parking & Visitor Access Areas
• Wildlife Habitat
• Trash & Food Waste/Cull Holding Area
• Chemical & Supply Storage

No refunds for cancellations made less than 2 weeks prior to the workshop. Cancellation at least 2 weeks prior to the workshop is refunded at 90% less PayPal fees if payment was made via PayPal. Refunds will not be given for missed workshop.
