Pre-meeting Trainings (October 8, 2014):

We will be offering two open registration classes, Developing and Administering Structured Interviews and Performance Testing, on Wednesday October 8th.

We will also be offering a free members-only training on Managing Multiple Panels and Score Standardization. The increasing emphasis on service in public service requires hiring and promoting employees who can effectively communicate and interact with others.   These abilities are often evaluated by oral interviews or exercises, but what happens when the applicant pool is large and other screening devices are insufficient?  This course provides an overview of multi-panel orals with an emphasis on design considerations, process management, and the analysis of data.  Score standardization is covered in detail with examples using Excel.  While not required, participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to follow along, and special testing challenges from work to share with the class.

To register for the member-only training, please contact Marie Ragazzo. Registration will initially be limited to one attendee per member agency, if space remains we will open up seats to additional member agency representatives.

Developing and Administering Structured Interviews is a one-day workshop that reviews the latest interview research and addresses the entire structured interview lifecycle, from job analysis and question development through the training of interview panel members and administration and scoring process. Through the combination of individual and small-group exercises, this highly interactive class covers structured interview theory and concepts; the use of job analytic data in developing structured interview questions; question formats; the use of rating scales and scoring criteria; candidate scheduling, panel member training content; and administration issues. This workshop will help human resources practitioners improve the validity, reliability, efficiency, and defensibility of oral boards.

Performance Testing is an interactive one-day course that provides a foundational approach to the value and applicability of performance-based testing in the selection process.  Through a combination of historical perspective, research review, and state of the art development techniques, this session will introduce participants to how performance testing can be integrated into the testing/selection process and take them on a journey from design and development through planning to administration.  Specific topics addressed will include the design and development of exercises and rating criteria, assessor/rating training, and administration issues related to the standardization of performance testing.  Additional areas of focus throughout the course will entail using job analysis data to document the content validity of performance test, ways to improve the validity and reliability of performance tests, and tips for maximizing the effectiveness of performance testing in the selection process.  Course content will be covered through a combination of lecture, individual and group exercises, and discussion.  Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and bring forward challenges they may be encountering in their current use of performance tests.  This course is designed to assist practitioners improve the psychometric properties, defensibility, applicability, and efficiency of performance-based testing in their organizations.

Training Registration:
Early registration (by September 23) will be $175/members, or $225/non-members
Late registration (after September 23) $200/members or $250/non-members

Dr. WRIPAC

DR. WRIPAC is a professional networking event that gives our members and guests an opportunity to socialize and get to know one another outside of the meeting. For this meeting Dr. WRIPAC will be held at the Pirate's Dinner Adventure. Set aboard an authentically replicated 18th-century Spanish galleon measuring 46 feet long, 18 feet wide with 40 foot masts, the ship is anchored in a 300,000-gallon indoor lagoon with night sky lighting.  Surrounding the lagoon is a six-sided showroom of six additional ships where the audience is seated to begin the show.  Voyagers on each of the six ships have their own fearless pirate mascot whom they cheer on as the adventure unfolds with a cast of a dozen actors, singers, and stunt performers engaging in a bounty of action-packed exploits, accompanied by cannon blasts, pyrotechnics and pleanty of laughs.

Tickets are available for $25/per person, which includes a full dinner. Alcoholic beverages are not included, but may be purchased individually.
