Yoga for Better Balance & Posture in Older Adults
Join us for a 12-hour yoga teacher training workshop “Yoga for Better Balance & Posture in Older Adults” to introduce basic concepts in yoga instruction & explore a sequence of yoga poses for balance and postural training, specifically for older adults.
Physical therapists and physical therapy assistants earn 1.2 PT CEUs. Course is also open to Yoga Teachers and Fitness Professionals. This therapeutic yoga teacher training workshop is appropriate for all levels of skill from beginners with no experience to certified yoga teachers. All participants will receive a training manual which includes photos of all poses instructed.
Participants will:
- Learn about basic yoga philosophy
- Understand the sequence of verbal cues given for instructing yoga poses
- Experience a sequence of yoga poses to improve posture & balance
- Explore the use of props to maintain proper alignment in the poses
- Discuss geriatric considerations and safety recommendations for all poses experienced
- Practice instructing yoga poses
- Observe basic manual proprioceptive cues and adjustments given to students with limited range of motion
- Discuss appropriate interventions for complaints of dizziness or vertigo during a yoga session
