Spirituality in Films—What’s it all about? Hollywood screenwriter Joe Conway will show clips from and discuss the aesthetically beautiful films of Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, Days of Heaven, Badlands, Tree of Life). Mr. Malick is himself a devout Christian. Joe Conway will talk about characters in Malick’s works who are lost souls and go on a quest for meaning. Also Mr. Conway will bring everyone up to date on Malick’s current project. He is making a film in Germany about the life of Franz Jagerstatter, a conscientious objector who refused to fight for the Nazis during WW II. He was executed for his beliefs. Mr. Conway knows Malick personally and has been on the set with him many times—so there will be a few anecdotes. In addition, Mr. Conway will discuss Atlanta’s film industry.
