USA Archery Level 1 Class

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Class

Fire Mountain Scout Camp on June 30, 2018.

Becoming a certified USA Archery Instructor not only provides you with valuable knowledge and hands-on skills, but also boosts the quality of our BSA archery program.  Instructor Certifications are recognized by both USA Archery and the National Field Archery AssociationPlease plan on volunteering for a minimum of 2 shooting sports days at Fire Mountain or Chief Seattle in the next two years to both hone your skills and support Mount Baker Council’s shooting sports programs.

All course materials and equipment will be provided (books, tests, paperwork, stretch band, bows, arrows, etc.). Participates should bring, pen, highlighter, comfortable footwear/clothing, weather appropriate clothing.  Training will involve classroom, indoor, and outdoor settings. 


Level 1 Instructor Class – Saturday June 30th. 8 AM – approximately 6 PM. 

Level 1 course fee: $60

Instructor:  Cathy Tillotson, USA Archery Level 4 (NTS) Coach

The Level 1 course will focus on introducing basic archery skills to beginners, safety, range set-up, basic equipment repair, and basic shooting steps as well as how to conduct basic archery instruction and group lessons.  Students MUST attend the entire class to be certified.

Level 1 Course Objectives:

  • Learn and be able to demonstrate proper archery range setup and safety
  • Learn and be able to demonstrate basic archery equipment setup and repair for both recurve and basic compound bows and arrows
  • Learn and be able to demonstrate and teach the basic steps of shooting for the sport of archery

Prerequisite for the USA Archery Level 1 Class: must be 15 years of age to take the class, 18 years old to run a range.

You must be BSA registered, 15 years old to take the Level 1 class, 18 years old to take the Level 2 class, and 18 years old to run an archery range.

A mid-day snack will be provided for those attending.

Refund Policy 

Course fees will be fully refunded if cancellation notification is received by the Scout Office before June 15th, or if class is canceled by Council. Fees will not be refunded after June 15th due to advance ordering of course materials. Course fees may be transferred to another person. Call the council office if a fee transfer is required.
