DCPCA Emergency Preparedness Tabletop Exercise 

DCPCA will be hosting its annual emergency preparedness tabletop exercise. Participation in this tabletop exercise will fulfill health center facility CMS requirement for tabletop exercise participation for 2019-2020:

• A tabletop exercise that includes a group discussion led by a facilitator, using a narrated, clinically-relevant emergency scenario, and a set of problem statements, directed messages, or prepared questions designed to challenge an emergency plan. https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Provider-Enrollment-and-Certification/SurveyCertEmergPrep/Emergency-Prep-Rule.html

A tabletop exercise is a meeting to discuss a simulated emergency situation. Members of team from a specified organization collectively review and discuss the actions they would take in a particular emergency.  The exercise will test the organization’s emergency plan informally.

Prior experience is not necessary to participate.  This tabletop exercise will be in a “low-stress” environment where participants will be engaged in a facilitated discussion regarding their organization’s response to an emergency. 

Health center staff are strongly encouraged to bring a full team of colleagues so that all those involved in emergency preparedness planning are included in this exercise.Participants will need to be familiar with their organization’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), along with all other associated plans if available (i.e. Infection Control, Downtime Procedures, Cyber Security, and Surge).

• 9:00 - 12:00 - Exercise
• 12:00 - 1:00 - Lunch & Hotwash
• 1:00 - 2:00 - Roundtable on lessons learned and strategies to enhance preparedness for upcoming year
