Forty years ago, a molecular biologist and dedicated Buddhist Meditation and yoga practitioner named Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn had an insight while on retreat. Perhaps he could bring these deep and powerfully healing practices right into the New England Medical center (UMASS), where he worked! In what proved to be a highly successful experiment, he created a secular curriculum that we now know as the most widely researched form of Mindfulness in medicine; Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Over the last four decades, during which there have been numerous evidence based studies showing the benefits of Mindfulness in health and well being, this program has been brought to hospitals all over world, and is now used in schools, business, leadership, for veterans, in prisons and at non-profit organizations.
This day of Mindfulness will offer the foundations of MBSR in an experiential format. We’ll move seamlessly from one practice to another as on retreat, with times for dialogue, exploration and science. It will serve to deepen and support experienced practitioners and is a great introduction for those new to meditation as well.
