OOGEEP 2016 Industry Safety Training 1-Day Workshops 

The safety of the men and women who work and wish to work in Ohio’s oil and gas industry continues to be a priority for OOGEEP. OOGEEP’s Safety Training Committee, comprised of experts representing the entire spectrum of Ohio’s oil and gas operators, has developed an exciting one-day safety training workshop.

Session 1: NORM / TENORM Awareness and Beyond
This session will provide attendees with the necessary information in regard to terminology /definitions and identification of NORM and TENORM material as found or generated during exploration and production processes of crude oil and natural gas. Proper techniques for safe handling, required PPE and disposal of the materials will be provided.

Session 2: Highway Transportation Safety / Vehicle Inspections
During this session the State Highway Patrol, Division of Motor Vehicle Inspection, will provide insight on highway transportation safety and Ohio Motor Vehicle laws in regard to safe operations and inspections.

Session 3: DOGRM Emergency Incident Notification Requirements
This session will cover the ongoing development and operation of the New Emergency Incident Notification System by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas Resource Management. The most current notification requirements, spill / leak quantities, use of the dedicated 24/7 emergency notification phone number: 1-844-OHCALL1 to report emergency incidents will be covered in detail as it applies to operators and contractors.

Session 4: “Checking Your Six!” and “360° Surroundings”
This session will provide attendees the understanding and motivation to check your surroundings ”360°” whenever you park your vehicle at the work site, before you leave the work site, and while driving. Incidents involving backing and distracted driving can be eliminated through training and practical applications.

Session 5: “Hot Work” - A Case Study for Learning
In this session a case study review of the Chemical Safety Board (CSB Video) Death in the Oilfield will be used to help participants understand the need for company Hot Work Permits. Discussion on how to develop and implement Hot Work Permit(s), along with a look at the core requirements to be included when performing hot work as defined by OSHA. Other tips on how to use videos from the CSB and other potential resources to engage and promote common sense safe work practices will also be covered.

Session 6: Confrontation in the Workplace
This session will identify 4 types of individuals /situations, including the risk factors and warning signs that can lead to confrontations in the workplace. Strategies for prevention will be provided to minimize these types of situations for individuals and companies.

Session 7: Hands Down! Hand Injury Prevention
According to many sources hand injuries consistently lead the way for recordable, disabling, and cost intensive injuries in our industry. This session will focus on identifying the hazards associated with hand injuries and ways to avoid these types of injuries. Avoidance strategies will include tool selection, machine guards, ergonomics, and PPE.
