The Resilience Breakthrough

Grit.  Fortitude.  Determination.  Resilience.  No matter what you call it, teachers and administrators nationwide agree that there has never been a greater need to teach our students how to thrive in school and in life.  Studies have shown that students who score higher on resilience measures have improved social skills, higher grades, a greater love of learning, and better decision-making skills.  This lively and interactive training brings to life resilience from neuroscience to intervention.  Setting power struggles aside, we will explore how the brain heals itself and identify everyday, brain-based tools to help students of all ages and ability levels develop the desire to try and the resilience to keep moving forward.  We will look at what you already are doing and share even more tools for turning adversity into action for all of us.

Christian will present what has been established as the four sources of resilience.  Using PowerPoint, video, and activities, the audience will receive a walkthrough of each of these sources while developing an understanding of how each unleashes resilience, and how they can help every student and themselves become resilient.  This session will be interactive, using challenge questions and a variety of multimedia and activities that will help the attendees gain personal insight into the challenge’s youth face.  Participants will also be given a 10-page handout that outlines the presentation’s approach to reaching every student.

Mary and Sarah will bring to life the neuroscience of resilience and the power of relationships.  They will combine their working knowledge and researched based interventions with Christian Moore’s Resilience Breakthrough work.  Exploring the how as adults “We are the environment” for the youth in our care.  They will help participants experience how to be with youth to create an experience of felt safety needed for students to develop cooperation, regulation and resilience.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will know how to build a belief in students that they can change their circumstances, no matter how hopeless.
  2. Participants will gain strategies to transform pain and adversity into fuel.
  3. Participants will be able to identify and address the neuroscience of resilience and what it looks like in everyday life.
  4. Participants will be able to identify ways to create an environment of felt safety for youth, so they have what they need to develop cooperation, regulation and resilience.
